City walk Sønderho

Fanø Museum of Arts in Sønderho has specialised in the so-called Fanø painters. Same as Skagen has Fanø and especially Sønderho attracted many artists, e.g. Julius Exner, Reinhard Heinemann and Ortwin Nøbbe. In1992 the Fanø Museum of Art was opened in the Kromanns House. In the past this house used to be a factory and a shop. The latter used to be in that part of the museum which today is the entrance area.

Sønderho MillSønderho Mill - inside

The mill in Sønderho was built in 1895. It was renovated and has the same look at it used to have when it was built. Every year in mid-July the Sønderho Day is celebrated in front of the mill. There are still many people who wear the old Fanø costumes at that occasion.

Sønderho skipper houseSønderho skipper house - inside

Hannes House is a skipper house which was built in the 1750’s. The house is well-preserved and looks the same as in the old days so that one could believe that the skipper and his wife have only just left the house. Here you still find the old furniture, pictures, boxes for sheep and the things that the skipper brought home from his journeys.

The Old Lifeboat Station: The Lifeboat was essential for the community at the North Sea. It has been standing at the Lifeboat Station sind 1889. It was dragged by horses. At the Old Lifeboat Station you find descriptions of dangerous rescue operation around Sønderho and information on the history of the Danish rescue.
